The Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) 2023, a remarkable event that unfolded in the heart of Seoul, South Korea, gained a special place in my memories. People from all corners of the Asia Pacific came together for this incredible experience. As a NetMission Ambassador, I got the chance to work alongside ICANN professionals, preparing the info kit for the Model ICANN Conference.
From the moment I arrived on Day 1 to the closing ceremony, every moment was filled with insights and connections. The workshops hosted by ICANN, APNIC, and DotAsia Organisation added layers of understanding to my knowledge. In particular, the APNIC workshop challenged us with real-world security problems and team challenges that pushed us to think creatively.
A special moment that stands out was the APIGA City game on Day 2. Crafted by NetMission Ambassadors. Through the game, APIGA fellows learned the importance of vigilance against security threats.

One of the standout features for me was the chance to present not once, but twice. I guided the APIGA Fellows through what the Model ICANN Conference was all about and how to get ready for it. Then, on Day 4: The Model ICANN Conference was an immersive role-play exercise that allowed participants to step into the shoes of various stakeholders, including the Government Advisory Committee (GAC), Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), and At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC). This dynamic simulation provided firsthand insight into the complexities of policy development discussions within the ICANN community. Through spirited debates and thoughtful negotiations, we explored the multifaceted aspects of the Applicant Support Program (ASP), the central theme of the conference. This experience not only deepened my understanding of Internet governance but also honed my negotiation and collaborative skills. I had the honor of leading the conference as a note-taker and GNSO group leader. It was incredible to witness the vibrant discussions and decision-making processes.

The best part? APIGA wasn’t just about business. It was about forging friendships and connections with people from GAC, GNSO, ALAC, ICANN, and APNIC. We laughed, we learned, and we grew. What made this experience even more memorable was the warm hospitality of our Korean hosts. The locals welcomed us with open arms, sharing their culture and traditions. Engaging in conversations, exploring Seoul’s enchanting beauty, and savoring authentic Korean dishes gave us an immersive experience.
KISA, the organizers, deserve a shoutout. They made sure everything was smooth sailing, including catering to special dietary needs. And the icing on the cake was the visit to Lotte World, where we left our worries at the door and embraced pure fun.

As I wrap up this blog, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to NetMission and DotAsia Organisation. Their belief in young minds like mine and their dedication to empowering a community of internet governance enthusiasts are what made this journey possible. Thanks to them, I’ve not only learned about Internet governance but also experienced the power of unity, networking, and meaningful engagement. This journey has shaped me in ways I couldn’t have imagined, and I can’t wait to pass on the knowledge and insights I’ve gained.
