What is NetMission.Asia

NetMission.Asia is a network of passionate young Asians dedicated to engage and empower youth on Internet governance discourse with the aim to enhance youth mobility and create impact in Asia.

Supported by DotAsia Organisation, NetMission.Asia was established in 2009 where students from top tertiary institutes or universities are recruited every year for the NetMission Academy. The program covers a wide range of Internet governance topics that provide you the basic understanding and the current issues at stake with an emphasis on the multi-stakeholder approach. Upon completion, fellows of the Academy will join the working groups, research team, or other initiatives of NetMission.Asia to contribute to capacity building and policy advocacy of youth in the Asia Pacific.

Our NET Model

In NetMission.Asia, we create impact through our NET model where accepted fellows will firstly be admitted to the NetMission Academy. Through the NetMission.Asia Academy, we develop a network of NetMission alumni and ambassadors, who endeavor to share their knowledge gained to their local community and organize their own youth-led initiatives to inspire more youth to care about the Internet. NetMission.Asia provides a platform for young people in Asia with shared interests on Internet issues to connect, advocate and channel the ideas to the global policy dialogue.

Two Pillars: Capacity Building & Policy Advocacy

Since 2010, NetMission Ambassadors organize the annual Youth Internet Governance Forum (yIGF) around Asia Pacific to support and encourage youth participation on Internet governance, the ambassadors have been organising the yIGF in the Asia-Pacific regions, including Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Delhi, Macao, Taipei, Bangkok and Port Vila. The forum’s role-play discussion on Internet governance is one of the key highlights pioneered by NetMission.Asia that later led to the Model ICANN meetings at the Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA).NetMission was also awarded the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2009 at Best Digital Inclusion Award (Service).

NetMission.Asia has been actively participating in various Internet conferences both regionally and globally, including ICANN meetings, the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF), Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF), Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) and the Asia Pacific Next Generation Camp (APNG Camp), etc.

NetMission.Asia is currently one of the At-Large Structure (ALS) of APRALO within At-Large in the ICANN community representing the youth voices on the Internet domain name policies. NetMission.Asia is also an active member of the Youth Coalition on Internet Governance (YCIG) in IGF.
