In late August 2009, NetMission Ambassasors were in Beijing for the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) conference on Internet Governance. The APNIC conference highlighted the fast growth of the Internet population in China and the potential opportunities and concerns that may arise in the coming few years. Even though these were seemingly familiar topics, we never though about the consequences and problems we would face in the process.
NetMission Ambassadors were honoured to participate in the APSTAR Retreat before the main meeting, where we had the opportunity to present on NetMission’s work in the past ear in front of directors in the AP region.
The visit to IBM in Beijing was also a very insiring part of this tour. They introduced the lastest development of IT industry in China, such as the technology for the elderly, which was very relevant to the issues NetMission’s Elderly group was dealing with.
The Beijing trip not only enhance NetMission Ambassador’s knowledge about the latest issues surrounding the Internet world from both a community and business point of view, they were also able to learn better from one another’s culture and build stronger friendships that will help them in future endeavours.
